What is the purpose of the role?

To ensure the day-to-day operations and security of the site, and the supervision of site operatives.
 

What will this role involve?

Ensure the waste collection operations are carried out in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner
Ensure the site drop-off/loading areas are maintained in a safe and efficient manner
Operate all loading/unloading plant and machinery as required
Supervise the loading/unloading of materials
Ensure delivery/collection drivers and operatives comply with site safety rules
Ensure the company Health & Safety Policy is complied with at all times
Ensure the company Environmental Policy is complied with at all times
Complete and issue skip delivery/collection tickets as required
Ensure all vehicles, plant and machinery employed in the operation of the contract is maintained to ensure the minimum of downtime
The collection of operational paperwork/tickets as required
Drive on-site vehicles as required
Use the performance review system to set annual objectives for direct reports
Review progress on objectives periodically
Perform annual review
Act as first line manager and people manager for site operatives and collection operatives
Organise work schedules to ensure appropriate staff numbers are available
Check and sign off time sheets
Any other duties which could be reasonably expected of you in accordance with the grading of the job

What are we looking for?

Appropriate Certificate of Technical Competence – WAMITAB scheme or equivalent
IoSH Managing Safely or equivalent desirable
Ability to use computer based systems e.g. Microsoft Office
People management
Understand operation and maintenance requirements of mobile plant and machinery
Decision making within defined limits of authority
Worked in the waste industry, operated mobile plant, operated computerised weighbridge
Calm, authoritative, makes decisions within defined limits of authority
Organisational ability
Understands sophisticated plant/machinery, understands weighbridge operations, able to record data and produce reports
